Analytic and Numerical Studies of a Tectonics Model for Solar Coronal Heating Chung-Sang Ng1, A. Bhattacharjee1 1University of New Hampshire. Presentation Number: 14.04 Recent observations have shown that the solar surface is covered with a so-called “magnetic carpet”, in which small-scale magnetic flux loops are continually emerging and interacting. The magnetic flux at the photosphere is thus being replaced in every 10-40 hours. This magnetic carpet may have important implication for the heating problem of the solar corona. A tectonics model of coronal heating based on this physical picture has been studied recently [Priest, Heyvaerts and Title, ApJ 576, 533 (2002)]. These authors calculated the ohmic heating rate due to the dissipating of strong current sheets along magnetic separatrices. It is shown that the heating rate is inversely proportional to an effective resistivity if the current sheets can reach stationary state in a time shorter than the coherence time of the photospheric motions. Here we present our analytic and simulation results of this model, based on reduced magnetohydrodynamic equations, to quantify how the heating rate depends on resistivity, as well as the photospheric coherence time. An anisotropic turbulent model for solar coronal heating
Context. We present a self-consistent model of solar coronal heating in which we include the dynamical effect of the background magnetic field along a coronal structure by using exact results from wave MHD turbulence. Aims. We evaluate the heating rate and the microturbulent velocity for comparison with observations in the quiet corona, active regions and also coronal holes. Methods. The corona...

Theheating ofmagnetically closed structures (loops) in the solar corona by the resonant absorption of incident waves is studied by means of numerical simulations in the framework of nonlinear resistive magnetohydrodynamics (MHD). It is shown that the dynamics in the resonant layer is indeed very nonlinear for typical coronal parameters. The effect of the nonlinearity on the efficiency of the re...

The heating of the lower solar corona is examined using numerical simulations and theoretical models of magnetohydrodynamic turbulence in open magnetic regions. A turbulent energy cascade to small length scales perpendicular to the mean magnetic field can be sustained by driving with low-frequency Alfvén waves reflected from mean density and magnetic field gradients. This mechanism deposits ene...

In this investigation, the performance of an existing heating system of a residential building incorporated with an array of solar thermal collectors was studied. For this purpose, transient systems simulation program model was assembled to estimate the hour-by-hour performance of the existing and the system equipped with the solar thermal collectors in terms of the provided space air condition...
متن کاملA Transient Heating Model for Coronal Structure and Dynamics
A wealth of observational evidence for flows and intensity variations in nonflaring coronal loops leads to the conclusion that coronal heating is intrinsically unsteady and concentrated near the chromosphere. We have investigated the hydrodynamic behavior of coronal loops undergoing transient heating with onedimensional numerical simulations in which the timescale assumed for the heating variat...
